Welcome to Heckington Community Swimming Pool
Operated by Volunteers from the
Community, for the Community
About your Pool....
Open from May to September each year
Once a school pool we are now a Community Pool and are
able to welcome all members of the Heckington and wider
community for private hire
bookings, swim sessions,
swimming lessons and use for Baby and Toddler Splash
sessions and Ladies Evenings.
During Summer Term school time the pool is used by
pupils of Heckington St Andrews
School and local preschool groups for swimming
lessons with a qualified swimming instructor.
As the pool is heated, is 12m x 7m and with a constant
depth of one metre it is ideal for young children to
gain confidence in water and to learn to swim.
But our pool is also ideal for our more senior members
of the community, to help with confidence building in
the water, provide gentle exercise, relief from tired or
stressed joints and to aid mobility.
And the pool and its surrounding seating/patio areas
with a wonderful 9m x 4 m gazebo, providing an ideal
venue for birthday celebrations,
family parties, and barbeques and summer gatherings
of community groups...and is great value for money!
Our Snack Bar sells and serves hot and cold drinks,
crisps, sweets and ices whenever the pool is in use.
Where is it?
Heckington Pool is situated to the right of St. Andrews
C of E School and the Children’s Sure Start Centre on
Howell Road, Heckington, Lincs. NG34 9RX
When are we open?
During school term time we are open to the public after
school from 3.30pm and 4.30pm ~ extended to 5.30pm
during July 2010 ~
£1.50 per swimmer per hour.
Baby and Toddler Splash sessions take place on Thurs and
Friday afternoons between 2pm - 3pm ~ each infant must
be accompanied by an adult and the cost is just £2.50.
During July 2010 we are also holding some 'Ladies Night'
swim evenings, every Monday from 7pm - 9pm, with
exclusive access to the pool for us girls! No children,
no men - bliss! Again, cost is just £1.50 per hour per
person.
During the school holidays the pool is open for
Community swimming sessions on Mondays, Wednesdays,
Fridays and Saturdays from 1pm – 3pm at a cost of just
£1.50 per swimmer per hour.
When can it be hired for private use?
The pool is available to hire for private party or
community group hires whenever it is not in use for
school or public swimming sessions, providing we have a
volunteer Lifesaver available to provide essential
health and safety supervision. We usually require an
hour at the end of a public swim session to ensure the
pool is clean, tidy and ready for your use.
Private hire of the pool
costs just £35 for 1 hour or £50 for 2 hours. On site
barbeque hire is just £5.
Operated by Volunteers from the
Community, for the Community
Safe and supervised access to the pool is provided by
volunteer Lifesavers who
receive free training in exchange for their poolside
support. Training takes place every year, all we ask is
a commitment from you, to carry out at least 3-5
Lifesaver services poolside during open season. This can
be at after school sessions, Saturday or school holiday
weekday sessions or at private hire functions.
We also rely on volunteers to support our Lifesavers in
their role, acting as valuable ‘Eyes on the side’ when
the pool is being used. You don't have to have any First
Aid training for this (although it's always welcome),
you simply need to be available to attend poolside and
keep an eye on our bathers when not in the pool and our
spectators to ensure they are behaving appropriately and
are safe.
Additionally, volunteers also run our Snack Bar, provide
essential Chemical and Keyholder duties and take care of
the general care and maintenance of the pool site,
buildings, weeding etc.
New volunteers of all ages and
skills are always needed and welcomed. If you can
help in any way, please do not hesitate to contact us.
If you have just a few hours to offer, they would be
very gladly received.
